Erik ten Hag failed to conceal his disappointment as Sevilla took an early lead against his Manchester United side in the second leg of their Europa League quarter final.

With the tie level at 2-2 from the first leg, Harry Maguire failed to control a pass from David de Gea after just seven minutes,  which allowed Erik Lamela to pick the ball off him and pass the ball to Youssef En-Nesyri for an easy finish.

Things went from bad to worse as Seville added another through Loic Bade just after half time.

United now have mountain to climb if they are to keep their hopes of a European trophy alive.

It will leave fans ruing the absence of Lisandro Martinez, who is unavailable for the rest of the season after breaking a metatarsal in the first leg.

Harry Maguire was at fault as he failed to deal with a pass from David de Gea

Maguire started in the Argentine defender’s place, and continued to struggle in the tie after scoring a late own goal last week as United threw away two goal lead.

The hosts are currently on top in a tournament they have won an incredible six times since 2007.

If United are knocked out tonight, it will place extra pressure on their FA Cup semi final against Brighton on Sunday.

A win against the Seagulls could keep Erik ten Hag’s side on course for a domestic double after they won the League Cup earlier this year, but they look  a long way from silverware in Seville as the hosts remain all over them.
