Erik ten Hag eager to sign midfield star on free transfer as part of rebuild
Manchester United have joined the race to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer this summer.
Eriksen returned to football in January and enjoyed a superb second-half of the season with Brentford after signing a six-month deal with the Bees.
Thomas Frank’s side are eager to extend his stay and are willing to make him their highest paid player in the club’s history. Tottenham and Everton however are among the sides also looking to sign him with The Mirror now reporting United have joined the race.
Erik ten Hag is said to have been hugely impressed with the Dane’s desire. The Dutchman believes the former Ajax youngster can now play a key role in his Old Trafford rebuild with midfield an area he will urgently seek to address this summer.
Tottenham have the added incentive of Champions League football on offer but United hope they can convince him to come to Manchester.
The report adds ten Hag is hoping to make six additions to his United squad this summer as he seeks to lift the club from their current malaise.
Frenkie de Jong is the Dutchman’s priority transfer target with United close to agreeing a £70million fee with Barcelona.
United must still convince the 25-year-old to make the switch to Old Trafford however with his priority to remain at the Camp Nou.
Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is another target but latest reports from Netherlands suggest the 20-year-old is also having doubts over joining United this summer.
