Erik ten Hag decides to sell Manchester United star James Garner

Erik ten Hag is ready to cash in on James Garner, with Manchester United looking to raise around £15million by offloading the 21-year-old midfielder.

Garner returned to Old Trafford this summer with aspirations of breaking into the first team but injury limited him to just one appearance on the club’s pre-season tour.

The midfielder enjoyed a fantastic loan spell with Nottingham Forest last season and he helped the club back into the top flight for the first time this century.

Forest have repeatedly tried to re-sign Garner on loan but United have blocked their interest as Ten Hag was keen to see the England U21 ace up close.

United are desperately short in midfield having lost the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Andreas Pereira and only signed Christian Eriksen as a replacement.

But the club are now ready to sell Garner if they receive a suitable bid for the Englishman in order to boost Ten Hag’s transfer budget.

It’s reported that United value Garner at around £15m and it’s possible that they would use the cash to help in their bid to prise Frenkie de Jong away from Barcelona.

United agreed a £63m fee for the Dutchman six weeks ago but they’ve struggled to convince the Netherlands international to leave the Camp Nou.

De Jong is owed around £15m in deferred wages by Barcelona, who have shown a reluctance to pay him what he is owed if he leaves the club.

United are also working on a deal to sign Adrien Rabiot from Juventus, who is valued at around £15m.

The club are yet to agree personal terms with the Frenchman over a move to Old Trafford and Rabiot is said to be seeking around £160,000-a-week.
