Eric Dier header leaves Ryan Mason on his knees after ‘worst miss ever’

Ryan Mason sank to his knees after watching Eric Dier commit the ‘worst miss ever’ as Tottenham fought back against Manchester United.

Mason has been installed following the sacking of caretaker boss Cristian Stellini in the wake of Sunday’s 6-1 drubbing at Newcastle. It was a nightmare start to his latest stint as interim head coach as Spurs were given the run around in the first half by United, who capitalised on slack defending to lead 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

With discontent growing in the stands, a heavy defeat looked on the cards. But, to their credit, Tottenham were galvanised after the break, pulling a goal back through Pedro Porro before Dier wasted a golden chance to make it 2-2, heading horribly wide right in front of goal.

Mason couldn’t believe the opportunity hadn’t been taken and showed his frustration as he was spotted sinking to his knee in frustration, a feel that was shared by many fans.

“That’s the worst miss I’ve ever seen from Eric Dier,” said one. A second quipped: "What a miss. Eric Dier-bolical.”

A third added: “Ryan Mason was all Tottenham fans when Eric Dier missed that sitter.”

Another fan asked: “HOW HAS ERIC DIER MISSED THAT?”

Some fans weren’t as surprised though, with one saying: “It’s Eric Dier. What do you expect?”

However, to Dier’s relief, it did not prove to be a key miss as Son Heung-Min found an equaliser on 79 minutes as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
