Eni Aluko hits out at 'one-man band' Manchester United after Atalanta draw
Eni Aluko fears Manchester United have already become overly reliant on Cristiano Ronaldo following their last-gasp draw against Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Atalanta took the lead in the 12th minute through Josip Ilicic before Ronaldo equalised following a free-flowing move at the end of the first-half, which included both Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood.
The Portuguese star then rescued a point for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side with an exquisite 92nd minute volley after Colombian striker Duvan Zapata put Atalanta 2-1 up midway through the second-half.
It’s not the first time that the 36-year-old has saved United in the Champions league this season – he also scored a 95th minute winner against Villarreal at Old Trafford, before his late goal at home to Atalanta completed an incredible comeback win from 2-0 down.
And Aluko wants more from United’s other attacking players to relieve the pressure on Ronaldo, while also hitting out at their defensive display against the Nerazzurri.
‘Chelsea have played with new players, Romelu Lukaku is out, Timo Werner is out, but you look at United and it’s like it’s a one-man band,’ she said on BT Sport.
‘What else can Manchester United do to get the results? Cristiano Ronaldo can’t keep bailing them out.
‘Defensively they have come up against a striker in Zapata that ran them ragged. Is Manchester United’s backline good enough?
‘It looks like they can get torn apart by a good striker.’
The draw leaves United top of Group F on seven points after four matches ahead of their next game against second-placed Villarreal on November 23.
