‘English rain’ could help beat France as tornadoes and hailstones batter Qatar

England striker Harry Kane could have the last laugh on Saturday as Qatar is set to be lashed by rain as the Three Lions take on France.

Yesterday, a tornado snaked across the sands 10 miles from the Al Bayt Stadium where the quarter final will be played, dumping a torrent of massive hailstones.

And there are hopes that the “English” conditions will help the Three Lions pull off a stunning victory after more rain was forecast for Saturday.

Kyle Walker, 32, who is likely to be marking French superstar Kylian Mbappe, said a downpour “can be a factor” in the match.

He added that he welcomed the wet weather after nearly a month of cloud-free skies and 30C temperatures.

Walker said: “I would never have thought I would say I can’t wait to see rain. It has been that long. Living in Manchester you see rain every day.

“It looked like it was going to rain when we were training outside so I am not surprised there was a tornado where the ground was.’’

Qatar usually only gets a downpour on a couple of days a year.

But Daily Star Sport told last week how advanced forecasters had predicted it could have arrived in time for England’s last-16 clash with Senegal.

Yesterday Qatar’s meteorology department shared footage of downpours and hailstorms hitting the Gulf state.

Roads in the industrial city of Ras Laffan were flooded due to the dramatic deluge.
