England’s free time at World Cup – I’m a Celeb, shooting hoops and unicorns

The England team are spending their time after training shooting hoops and watching I’m A Celebrity… and even the unicorns have returned to the pool.

Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale has revealed what the Three Lions stars have been getting up to away from the cameras in their plush five-star Souq Al Wakra hotel just south of Doha.

That includes playing basketball with the hoop that was brought in specifically for Gareth Southgate’s men. While there are large screens scattered around an outdoor area which have been used for watching movies.

But some players have also been tuning into Tory MP Matt Hancock on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here as the FA have sorted out a way to beam in the ITV show.

While there are also covered tents for players to pop in for a massage as they relax between training sessions, team meetings and meals.

Ramsdale said: “It's lovely, what the FA and the team behind the team have done for us. “We've got our basketball net up which gets played a lot, there's big screens around for movies or I'm a Celeb and things like that if the lads are up at that time.

"Big tents where all the massages are so there's a real good sort of little village almost inside the walls. We're having so much fun already and it's just great, as I said the team behind the team have done so well for us it's really keeping us at home. Fine touches of photos and things in our rooms of family. So it means the world.”

But the famous unicorns from previous major tournaments have also appeared this week with Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice getting involved again. Ramsdale continued: "They were out today.

"The pool at the hotel is not as big as the one here. So the unicorns…I'm pretty sure I've seen Bukayo on it again and Declan so there might be some pictures of them coming out."

There also has been a fair bit of title talk around the camp between the Arsenal and Manchester City boys. The Gunners are five points ahead of City in the Premier League table after a superb start to the season before the World Cup break.

But it’s Merseyside duo Conor Coady and Trent Alexander-Arnold who have been on the wind up as they try to stir up some rivalry between players from the two title chasers. Ramsdale said: “The banter has mainly come from Conor Coady and Trent.

“They keep walking around pretending I've said 'five points clear' every day, just trying to wind me up. But it's healthy at the minute. No-one's really thinking too much about it.

“We're training really hard and the Premier League side has been put on the back burner as you can imagine. The conversations about the Premier League have died off, which I didn't expect to happen so soon. That's obviously good for the group that we're focussing on our own so quickly.”
