A pivotal battle of the Brits takes place in World Cup 2022 Group B on Tuesday evening, as Wales take on familiar foes England at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium.
The Three Lions will progress to the last 16 as group winners with all three points, while Wales – who lost 2-0 to Iran on Friday – must triumph and hope that other results go their way to stand a chance of making it through.
Here, Sportsmail’s columnists give their predictions.
Sportsmail’s experts have had their say on England v Wales, with most backing the Three Lions
Gareth Southgate’s England are looking to bounce back from the poor display vs the USA
I am backing England to win by three and that is being kind to Wales after what we have seen at this World Cup. Gareth Southgate should still select a strong team, largely unchanged, and victory will secure top spot. I’m going for a 1-1 draw in the group’s other game. Should these predictions come true, Group B would finish: England, Iran, USA, Wales.
MARTIN KEOWN
England 2-0 Wales
I am predicting a table-topping win for England and Southgate, but a departing defeat for Wales and Rob Page. Away from this Battle of Britain, I can see the USA beating Iran 1-0 if they can display the same energy they showed against England and Wales. With that, Group B would finish: England, USA, Iran, Wales.
Chris Sutton believes Wales will be swept aside by England after their poor showing in Qatar
Ian Herbert
England 1-2 Wales
Football can be about fairytales and Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey deserve a result for the ages, after all they have put in to making Wales great. Wales must pack the midfield, frustrate England and provide for Kieffer Moore so he can trouble Harry Maguire. Bale to deliver a free-kick to win it at the death.
Ian Ladyman
England 2-0 Wales
Wales have been desperately poor in both of their games so far and don’t look to have the quality to seriously inconvenience England. A fully firing England playing with confidence could run away with this game but they are a team looking for consistent form and I think that will make this a scratchy affair. England to win with a set-piece and a penalty.
