England’s World Cup stars received a heroes’ welcome when they returned to their Qatar base following the 3-0 triumph over Senegal in the last-16. The Three Lions cruised past the AFCON champions thanks to goals by Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.

Gareth Southgate’s players did not return to their Al-Wakrah hotel until the early hours of the morning, Qatar time. But that did not stop fans flooding into the base to serenade the team.

In videos shared by the England team’s official account, the players can be seen dancing and mingling with supporters upon arriving at the Al-Wakrah hotel. Jack Grealish high-fives one individual while Declan Rice dances in the middle of a large group.

Substitute goalkeeper Nick Pope jumps jubilantly through a row of chanting fans clad in England merchandise. Defender Kyle Walker and a few other players are seen dancing in the background while watching the scenes unfold.

The group – in the hundreds – appears to be similar to the gatherings of Indian expats seen in Qatar before the tournament.

It came after a fantastic last-16 victory over Senegal, which has set up an enticing clash with France in the quarter-final. England will meet the reigning world champions on Saturday evening.

Southgate’s side breezed beyond the African champions to reach the last eight for the third major tournament in succession. “It was really tough, knockout games are never easy,” captain and scorer Kane told ITV.

“I think we’ve showed great maturity through the tournament, and 3-0 against a really good side, credit to the boys, the mentality was top from the beginning and we took our chances when they came.

“We feel good, we’ve got good runners, good players getting forward, and it’s solid at the back, three clean sheets in a row is really important. A really good day for us.”

Kane raced in on goal and blasted a shot past Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to give England a 2-0 lead before half-time. It was the Tottenham striker’s first goal of the tournament.

On his strike, he added: “I had so much time, the ball just sat up nicely, the connection was perfect.

“I had a chance before that which I should have done better with, so it was nice to see that one go in. I’m a striker, so whenever I score I’m always happy.”
