England boss Gareth Southgate has been told that Marcus Rashford can play at the same level as Kylian Mbappe ahead of the Three Lions final World Cup group stage clash with Wales. England sit top of Group B following victory over Iran and a draw with the USA, but will hope for a positive result against Gareth Bale and co to continue their positive momentum in Qatar.
Southgate could be set to make several changes in the ‘Battle of Britain’ with Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker among the names that are likely to come into the team, after an unchanged side was picked for the draw against America. Fans have called for Phil Foden to come into the team after his surprise omission on Friday, and could line up alongside Manchester United star Rashford.
Former United striker Louis Saha has admitted that he is a big fan of Rashford, and he can even play at the same level as Mbappe who has lit up the tournament for France. “I really like Marcus Rashford,” Saha told Lord Ping.
“You know he can be a starter, he’s such a talent and threat. In less than 20 minutes against Iran, he showed how dangerous he can be. I love Harry Kane, but Rashford is just a humongous talent and I love to see him at this level.
“Kane is the best player, but Rashford is my favourite player in the England squad because of his style and I really enjoy watching him play. When Rashford has the eye of the tiger, he’s unplayable and at the same level as Kylian Mbappe. There will be times where fresh legs are needed in the squad. Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling are good positionally but Rashford has more ability and physicality… he can score headers too. He’s more complete, but it doesn’t mean he fits well in every game plan.”
England need just one point against Wales to secure qualification to the round of 16, and Southgate could hand Sterling a rest on the left-hand side and opt for Rashford instead. The United man has come off the bench in both games, and scored in the 6-2 drubbing of Iran but was unable to make a similar impact against the USA.

There have been some questions regarding Southgate following the disappointing draw on Tuesday, but Rashford has backed his international boss and hailed one change he has made since taking charge.
“Everyone is ready and I’m raring to go,” said Rashford on Sunday. “Training has been good for the lads who haven’t been getting as many minutes.
“For this squad, I feel like it’s never really been an issue ever since Gareth has been the manager. Maybe before it was a bit of an issue in terms of quality of training, and people’s dedication to training, but since Gareth has been manager it’s been intense.”
