Fans are convinced Kyle Walker was booked twice against Italy without being sent off.

Walker was officially shown a yellow card in the 71st minute of the match for time wasting when England were 2-1 up in the game.

But he also appeared to have been booked in the 53rd minute, as was announced by Channel 4, who were broadcasting the game live.

So when Serbain referee Srdjan Jovanovic showed the City defender a second card 18 minutes later, viewers were surprised to see the defender stay on the field.

Channel 4 commentator Steve Bower mentioned the incident, clarifying that they must have been misinformed by the earlier booking.

Walker however saw out the game as England claimed a 2-1 victory in Naples on Thursday

It was seemingly, in fact, Italy’s Giovanni Di Lorenzo that was booked in the melee.

‘Kyle Walker has been booked twice and is still playing,’ said Barstool Football on Twitter.

‘Kyle Walker has been booked twice and not been sent off?!’ said another confused fan. ‘Think the ref must of took the first initial one off.’

One England player that did receive two yellow cards was Luke Shaw, who was sent off with 10 minutes to go.

Luke Shaw was sent off, with his second yellow for a foul on Italy goal scorer Mateo Retegui

He received two yellows within 54 seconds of each other, leaving England to finish the game with 10 men.

‘Luke Shaw, he’s so useless,’ said one fan in reaction. ‘First you get yourself an unnecessary booking for time wasting and then you commit a silly foul.’

‘Poor that from Luke Shaw,’ added another. ‘He knew the ref was booking players for time wasting and got a silly first yellow for taking an age on a throw in.’

England did however see the game out, ensuring their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign got off to a win in Naples.
