England fans beg Southgate to hand Alexander-Arnold start after shooting drill

Trent Alexander-Arnold's shooting accuracy in England training has led to calls for Gareth Southgate to hand him an unexpected start against Wales.

Despite being a Premier League and Champions League winner with Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, Alexander-Arnold is behind both Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker in the pecking order with his country.

In a bid to show just what he offers going forward, the 24-year-old posted several clips of himself finding the net from range in some style – although many did point out his defensive struggles.

One fan said in response: "…hello Mr. Gareth Southgate."

A second agreed: "To summarise, Gareth Southgate let Trent play pls."

A third added: "Best ever RB that England has produced. Generational."

A fourth concluded: "Please put him on the f***ing pitch England."

Liverpool fans have called out Southgate for his snubbing of Alexander-Arnold for years, thanks in part to his 11 Premier League goals and 45 assists.

Earlier in the year, Southgate said of the defender after he was left out of a Nations League fixture: "It’s nothing to do with the World Cup. We have four right backs with exceptional quality.

"Kieran Trippier is playing exceptionally well and Reece James has been one of the outstanding players in the league.

"We know Trent is a very very good footballer and that’s why we picked him in the squad."

An injury suffered by Reece James gave Alexander-Arnold a path into the England squad, but Trippier has been favoured at right-back with Kyle Walker sidelined.

For the clash against Wales, Walker could well come back into the fold with England looking to secure progression into the knockout stages by avoiding defeat.
