Hayes hopes the victory will soften the blow of a difficult year on the men’s side.
‘I’m a football fan, I’ve watched how much our football club has suffered this year,’ she said.
‘We’ve had ownership change, the men’s team aren’t doing so well, Chelsea fans, that was for you. I hope we gave you something that you can smile about this year, the whole club, owners included.’
Hayes, who has won 14 trophies years in 11 years, added: ‘I will never tire of this (success). I mean this, hand on my heart, I could cry about it.’
