Emi Martinez didn't take long to get back to his "s***housery" ways for Aston Villa against Newcastle.

The Villa and Argentina goalkeeper hauled down Magpies forward Miguel Almiron in stoppage time at the end of the first half at St James' Park after coming way out of his box.

He had eyes only for Almiron, staring right at him before grabbing his shirt. Luckily for him, substitute Pau Torres – who had replaced an injured Tyrone Mings – was covering.

That meant referee Andy Madley only booked Martinez, rather than showing him a red card. Fans took to Twitter to laugh at his latest stunt, with one posting: "Some proper s***housery from Martinez there."

"Stonewall yellow, it's the slow mo grin from Martinez that's got me rolling, complete s***housery," commented a second, while a third wrote: "S***housery courses through Emi Martinez' veins."

He's gained quite the reputation over the years for his antics in between the sticks, most notably during the World Cup final penalty shootout last year.

Other supporters were divided about the yellow card decision. One posted: "This mean a keeper can storm out of his box, make no attempt to play the ball, drag an opposing player to the floor and only pick up a yellow card for it? Hahahahaha. The officiating in this league is an absolute joke."

Another argued: "Moving away from the goal and not last man, stupid from Emi but defo not a red." And one added: "More than happy this being a yellow if this remains a yellow for the rest of the season, but I guarantee it won’t."

Sky Sports pundits Jamie Redknapp and Andros Townsend also disagreed. Redknapp said: "I think the yellow card is right – Pau Torres is getting back on the line and it’s a yellow card.

"It’s a bit similar to the incident with Nick Pope against Mohammed Salah last season, he was sent off for that and I don’t like seeing players sent off."

Townsend replied: "Yes Jamie, but I don’t think a goalkeeper should be allowed to mistime their run and simply drag the winger down like that."
