‘Embarrassed’ Lampard has ‘lost faith’ after Everton’s thrashing by Brighton

Frank Lampard has lost faith in himself after being "embarrassed" by Everton's pasting against Brighton, says a body language expert.

Lampard's future is hanging on a knife edge after the Toffees shipped four against the Seagulls. Roberto De Zerbi's side ran out 4-1 winners on Merseyside thanks to goals from Karou Mitoma, Evan Ferguson, Solly March and Pascall Gross, leaving Lampard's future firmly in the balance.

The former Chelsea and Derby boss didn't offer much cause for optimism in his post-match interview, which has now been analysed by body language expert Darren Stanton.

Speaking on behalf of MyBettingSites, Stanton reveals how Lampard bows his head in the interview, showing he’s feeling shame and uncertainty. He also talks about how Lampard has lost faith in himself.

"The first emotion I feel that he is trying to suppress is shame, a signature gesture when a person is shameful or embarrassed is they will bow their head and tend to tilt it to the right," Stanton says.

"This is a classic shame gesture, again something children in front of a headmaster might do, he does a lot of this so therefore, he feels very embarrassed and shameful to be the person on the spot answering these questions."

Stanton continues by saying that Lampard in his current state is a pale imitation of the man fans are familiar with. "I believe he has lost faith in himself, this is not the man we are used to seeing," he adds.

"At the moment he does not feel very confident in his abilities as it has shaken his confidence or if he will remain in position. You can also see his shoulders move, this is what we call a small gesture, both his shoulders are moving up and down. In some circumstances, people do that when they are not sure or uncertain, however in this context it is displaying a signal of indifference."

Indeed, according to Stanton, Lampard's press conference resembles a mischievous schoolchild sent to a teacher.

Stanton adds: "This press conference interview reminded me of a naughty schoolboy in front of a teacher, Lampard was unusually fidgety. I noticed he didn’t stand still and he kept bobbing up and down from foot to foot which is a sign of anxiety and frustration.

"He also appears to have his hands behind his back in some quarters. This is a sign of authority however it is also a sign of subservience to the feeling that they have done something wrong."
