  • Sportsmail analyses 18 transfers that could occur before Thursday’s deadline

The Premier League transfer window is set to slam shut on Thursday night.

Some clubs appear to have got their business out the way early, and look set for a relatively quiet final day. But for other teams, there is plenty of work on last-minute deals still to be done.

Sportsmail takes a look at 18 potential transfers that could happen in the final hours of what has been a fascinating summer window.

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea look set to have a busy end to the summer transfer window

Joao Pedro

Everton are keen to improve their attacking options having only scored four goals in their opening five league matches.

Watford’s Joao Pedro is a player they are keen on, and he has already netted twice for the Championship side this term.

The Brazilian forward was linked with Newcastle earlier this summer, but the Magpies went for Alexander Isak instead, which could allow Everton a free run to make a late move for the talented youngster.

Josko Gvardiol

Chelsea look to be closing in on signing the highly-rated centre back, who has also attracted the attention of Manchester City and Tottenham.

The west London club are currently negotiating a deal with RB Leipzig worth around £75m – having already announced the arrival of Wesley Fofana from Leicester today.

If they reach an agreement, Gvardiol would be loaned back to Leipzig for the rest of the season before arriving at Stamford Bridge next summer.

Ben Brereton Diaz

Brereton Diaz has a number of potential suitors both in England and abroad. The 23-year-old scored 22 Championship goals for Blackburn in 2021-22, and has already netted twice this season.

He is into the final year of his contract at Ewood Park, and Celta Vigo and Nice are trying to take advantage of this. The two clubs are looking to reach a pre-contract agreement with the forward to sign him on a free transfer in 2023.

However, Everton and Fulham could scupper their plans and make a late bid to keep Brereton Diaz in England by offering him an opportunity to play in the Premier League.

Billy Gilmour

The Chelsea midfielder has emerged as a target for Brighton after falling out of favour under Thomas Tuchel.

Gilmour endured a difficult loan spell at Norwich last term, and has not made a top flight appearance for Chelsea this season.

Brighton would need to sign Gilmour permanently as clubs can only sign one player on loan from another Premier League side, and the Seagulls have already taken Levi Colwill off the Blues on a temporary basis.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Chelsea badly need a striker after sending Romelu Lukaku on loan to Inter and selling Timo Werner back to RB Leipzig.

Aubameyang is their top target for this position but they are yet to agree a fee with Barcelona for the Gabon forward.

Aubameyang suffered a broken jaw after being assaulted in his house by armed robbers on Monday morning, but Chelsea still want to sign the 33-year-old.

A meeting is due to take place between the two clubs on Wednesday as they look to come to an agreement.

James Garner

United have bolstered their midfield this summer by bringing in Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, leaving Garner some way down the pecking order.

The Red Devils are willing to sell the promising talent, who thrived on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, and Everton look set to win the race for his signature.

According to The Athletic, Everton have beaten off competition from Southampton, Leicester and Forest, and the Toffees are set to land Garner in a deal worth around £15m.

Hakim Ziyech

Ziyech made his first start of the season for Chelsea in their 2-1 defeat against Southampton on Tuesday after being largely overlooked by Tuchel in the opening weeks of the campaign.

A return to Ajax has emerged as a possibility for Ziyech, while Manchester United and AC Milan have also been linked with the winger this summer.

A shock late switch to Old Trafford would see Ziyech link up with Erik ten Hag again, after playing under him in the Netherlands.

Wilfried Zaha

Zaha has been in sparkling form in the early stages of the season for Crystal Palace, scoring four goals in as many games. His latest strike against Brentford on Tuesday night was arguably the best of the lot.

Chelsea want to bring in a winger before the deadline, and have identified Zaha as a potential option. London rivals Arsenal are also interested in the Ivorian.

Patrick Vieira has insisted that Zaha will not be leaving Selhurst Park at this point, but Palace may find a lucrative offer too good to turn down.

Wilfried Zaha could leave Crystal Palace to join either Chelsea or Arsenal

Douglas Luiz

Douglas Luiz is another player that both Arsenal and Chelsea are keen on.

The Aston Villa midfielder is into the final year of his contract at Villa Park, and he has only started one league game for Steven Gerrard’s men this season.

Putting pen to paper on a new deal to stay in the Midlands is not out of the question, but he could be tempted by a move to the capital, while Atletico Madrid have also expressed an interest in signing the Brazilian.

Conor Gallagher

Chelsea are expected to make a decision on Gallagher’s future on Wednesday amid interest from Crystal Palace.

The Eagles want Gallagher back at Selhurst Park after his successful loan spell last season, while there are as many as seven other clubs waiting to see if Gallagher is available.

Gallagher came through Chelsea’s academy, and has managed to get game time in recent weeks due to injuries to N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic. Ruben Loftus-Cheek also picked up an injury on Tuesday, which could lead to Tuchel wanting to keep Gallagher.

However, if Gallagher senses that his game time may be restricted over the coming months, he could be interested in going elsewhere to boost his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad.

Samuel Chukwueze

Everton have made an approach for Villarreal winger Chukwueze ahead of what promises to be a busy final day for the Toffees.

Chukwueze’s contract runs until 2024, and he is still only 23 so he will not come cheaply.

The Premier League club are trying to negotiate an initial loan deal, with an obligation to buy the Nigerian international for as much as €50m (£43m).

Youri Tielemans

Newcastle want to bring in a holding midfielder before the window closes after losing Bruno Guimaraes and Jonjo Shelvey to injury.

Guimaraes’ hamstring problem is not believed to be too serious, but Shelvey faces another couple of months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on his own hamstring issue over the summer.

Tielemans is a target that the Magpies could make a late move for. The Belgian offers versatility as he can play as a deep-lying midfielder or higher up the pitch, and Leicester may be willing to offload him now rather than losing him for free next summer.

The 25-year-old has also been linked with Arsenal this summer.

Neymar

Chelsea are interested in the PSG forward, but there are a lot of obstacles to overcome for this deal to go through.

Neymar has started the season in red-hot form, and it seems unlikely that PSG will be willing to let him go now, despite being open to him leaving earlier this summer.

The 30-year-old was also at the team’s hotel on Tuesday night ahead of their game with Toulouse on Wednesday, so it would take a dramatic turn of events for Neymar to negotiate a switch to Chelsea at this stage.

Craig Dawson

Dawson is attracting interest from several clubs including Wolves, Aston Villa and Leicester.

West Ham boss Moyes wants to bring in a centre back before allowing Dawson to leave, but a move away is potentially on the cards for the experienced defender.

Dawson has been a regular in the West Ham line up over the last two seasons, but is no longer a guaranteed starter under Moyes.

Jeremie Boga

Leicester are keen on Dawson and they are also trying to bring Boga back to the Premier League as the club look to bolster their ranks.

Boga came through Chelsea’s youth team and also had a loan spell at Birmingham in his younger years. He has been based in Italy since 2018, playing for Sassuolo and Atalanta.

Leicester want to sign him, and it has been reported that the winger is keen on moving to the King Power Stadium.

Leicester’s former head of recruitment Lee Congerton is now at Atalanta, which could help get a deal over the line.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Maitland-Niles struggled to make an impression on loan at Roma last season, and he is a peripheral figure at Arsenal right now.

He has still caught the eye of a number of clubs, though, with Newcastle showing interest in the versatile England international.

Southampton, West Ham, Everton and Forest have also been linked with him this summer, although injuries to midfielders Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny could make Mikel Arteta think twice about offloading Maitland-Niles now.

Daniel James

It has been a busy summer for Antonio Conte’s side and they might not be done just yet.

Tottenham are interested in signing Leeds’ Dan James on loan with an option to buy.

Conte wants to bring in a winger before allowing Bryan Gil to complete his loan move to Valencia.

Idrissa Gana Gueye

Gana-Gueye’s return to Everton is set to be finalised on Wednesday.

The 32-year-old played at Goodison Park between 2016 and 2019 prior to his move to PSG.

He is now on his way back to join up with Frank Lampard’s squad on a two-year deal, with an option for a third.
