Edinson Cavani speaks out on his injury after Man Utd's draw with Chelsea

Edinson Cavani said he was ‘looking forward to coming back soon’ as he hinted he was closing in on a possible return to first-team action in the wake of Manchester United’s goalless draw with Chelsea.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side appeared to miss Cavani’s presence up front as they lost further ground on runaway Premier League leaders Manchester City with Sunday’s drab stalemate.

Cavani, 34, had been absent for United’s previous three matches due to a muscle injury and while there were hopes the veteran Uruguay striker could feature, he failed to even make the substitutes bench at Stamford Bridge.

Solskjaer will no doubt be desperate to have Cavani available for United’s next two games away to Crystal Palace and title rivals City and the attacker provided a positive update on his fitness on Sunday night.

‘Looking forward to coming back soon,’ he told his followers on Instagram.

Eyebrows were raised when United brought in Cavani on a free transfer last summer given his age but the forward has silenced his doubters with a series of outstanding performances in England.

The Uruguay international – PSG’s all-time record scorer – has racked up six goals and two assists in the Premier League this term and found the net in United’s Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Everton in December.
