Edinson Cavani has told Manchester United he will make a formal decision on his future by the end of April, according to reports. The Uruguayan only signed last summer, but could yet return to South America, with Boca Juniors desperate to bring him to Argentina.

Rumours surrounding extending his stay at Old Trafford have increased since the player’s father admitted it was likely his son would leave England.

“There’s a 60 per cent chance of Edinson coming to South America. We’re very excited,” Luis told Argentinian broadcaster TYC Sports last month.

Luis went on to suggest that Cavani didn’t feel comfortable in his surroundings and would like to move closer to his family.

He added: “Edi doesn’t feel comfortable where he is at the moment. He’s been thinking about being closer to his family for over two years now and that’s the reason why I think Edi will end up playing for a club in South America.

“I’d like him to join a team that has a chance of winning something. Here in Uruguay there’s no chance of that happening.

“We’ve spoken to Edinson and he’s always leant towards Boca Juniors because he’s had so many conversations with (manager Juan Roman) Riquelme about it.

“I know he’d like to play and be nearer to his home country so that we can all be in closer proximity.”

Ole.com report that the interest is more than the mutual, with a Boca source claiming ‘Cavani already has a shirt’.

They are currently keeping both the No 7 and No 9 jerseys spare, both numbers that the United forward has worn in his career.

The report adds that Cavani regularly watches Boca games in order to follow his future teammate, regardless of the time difference.

It also claims that Cavani has met with chief-executive Ed Woodward and new football director John Murtough, with the United bosses keen to arrange a one-year extension.

However, the player is yet to make any firm commitment to the club and will instead let them know by the end of this month.

That could leave Old Trafford bosses unsure of their position in terms of the race for Erling Haaland.

The Borussia Dortmund forward’s representatives have been travelling across Europe, with super agent Mino Raiola trying to broker a deal.

United hold a definite interest in the 20-year-old, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keeping in touch with his compatriot from their time together at Molde.

Solskjer has told fans he will remain tight-lipped on any potential deals this summer, as the club navigate the summer window.

He said: “Who we’re interested in and who we can go for and who we will go for, of course I’m not going to comment on that.

“Hopefully, I’ll sit here with players nobody has written about and thought we were not going to go to. We conduct our recruitment business and scouting the players we are interested in, we do it the right way, I hope and feel.”
