Eden Hazard is "sad" at Real Madrid as ex-Chelsea star linked to Newcastle move
Roberto Martinez has spoken about his affection for Eden Hazard and claimed that the Real Madrid attacker is 'sad' amid rumours the attacker could be making the move to Newcastle.
The Belgian was arguably Chelsea's best player when he departed for Real Madrid in 2019, but owing to fitness issues, he’s struggled to make a significant impact with Los Blancos.
From being one of the Premier League star players across seven campaigns, Hazard, 30, has only tallied five goals in 54 games at Madrid, while he’s only made four starts for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season.
The out-of-favour player has been heavily linked with a move to recently-purchased Newcastle, as they look to bring in fresh talent in January to salvage their season.
And Martinez – who coaches Hazard for the Belgium national side – said that he looks ‘sad’ at the moment, despite being in the best shape he's been in for a while.
Speaking on COPE's El Partidazo, he said: "Hazard is medically in his best moment since he arrived at Real Madrid.
“He is sad in football terms, this is the first time that he is experiencing this situation.
"He is a player who has always led winning projects and now he doesn’t have that role, but he is a footballer of exceptional talent and that is never lost, you have to have faith in him."
Hazard netted 85 goals in 245 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, while he helped them win two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, along with two Europa Leagues.

Ancelotti has already insisted that he would allow Hazard to leave he if wishes to leave.
The former Chelsea manager said: "Never in my career as a coach have I forced a player to stay when they want to leave.
"In my own personal opinion, I don’t have any doubts about that."
The former Lille player registered 21 goals in his final season with the Blues – but the most he’s managed for Real is just four.
He’s yet to score a goal this season, as rumours of his departure intensify.
