Newcastle were hit with a double injury blow during their Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
It was a painful night for Eddie Howe’s side at St James’ Park, as Felix Nmecha scored the only goal of the game in a huge win for the Bundesliga side.
That wasn’t the only bad news of the night for the Magpies as both Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy were forced off with injuries.
Isak started the game but hobbled off after 15 minutes, and substitute Jacob Murphy was forced off just five minutes after he came on as a second-half replacement for Joelinton.
Howe has confirmed that Murphy has suffered a dislocated shoulder while Isak has had a ‘reoccurring’ of a groin injury.

When asked about Isak after the game, he said: ‘That was a blow for us, and Jacob coming off as well which looks like a serious injury.
‘We have a small squad as it is but with so many games to come that’s the big disappointment of the night.
‘(Isak) looks a reoccurring of the groin injury and Jacob Murphy it looks more serious, a dislocation of his shoulder which isn’t a good thing.
Swedish international Isak went down after 15 minutes with the injury. After some treatment, he managed to get up again, but was shaking his head while also walking gingerly.
Ultimately, he was unable to continue and was subsequently replaced by Callum Wilson.
Murphy came off the bench in the 65th minute and had to be helped off the pitch five minutes later with his shirt being used as a makeshift sling.
Isak has scored seven goals in just 11 games in all competitions, meaning he has netted 17 times in 38 appearances for Newcastle since joining last year.
The Magpies will be hoping that star forward Isak doesn’t miss too much time with injury
Isak – who has scored seven times in 11 games this season – was replaced by Callum Wilson as the Magpies went on to suffer a 1-0 defeat in the Champions League to Borussia Dortmund
Murphy looked to be in considerable pain as he clutched onto his shoulder before he was taken off
After arriving from Real Sociedad as the club’s record signing for £60m, Isak scored twice in his first three games before he picked up a serious thigh injury.
This kept the 24-year-old out of action for almost four months before he was fully fit for the rest of the campaign as the Magpies qualified for the Champions League.
In total, he scored 10 goals in 27 appearances last season as he dovetailed nicely in attack with Wilson.
Murphy’s brief appearance against Dortmund comes just days after he bagged a goal and two assists in Newcastle’s 4-0 win over Crystal Palace.
