Newcastle boss Eddie Howe will need to work on the work ethic of his players after being caught criticising the Magpies’ stars during his first training session. Howe was appointed as the club’s head coach on Monday.
The former Bournemouth manager was the man chosen to lead the club’s Saudi-backed new era following a lengthy recruitment process.
Director Amanda Staveley, who helped broker the eye-watering and controversial £305million purchase from the unpopular Mike Ashley, appointed Howe nearly three weeks after parting ways with Steve Bruce.
The 43-year-old former defender had been out of work since leaving Bournemouth upon their relegation from the Premier League in August 2020.
He had guided them from League Two to the top-flight in just eight years and maintained their Premier League status for another five years.

Howe took his first training session on Tuesday and has two weeks to implement his plans. The November international break means he will not face his first game until the 20th.
But the new boss was seen demanding more from his players in a sign that he has plenty of work to do to improve the club’s form.
“A lot of yous are stood still,” Howe shouted. “Stood still is no good…”
Newcastle are 19th in the Premier League and are without a win all season. Howe watched on as the Tyneside outfit drew 1-1 with Brighton on Saturday.
He was appointed after a lengthy search for a new manager, with Newcastle going through the likes of Paulo Fonseca and Unai Emery.
Fonseca was the initial but talks with the former Roma manager broke down.
Emery reportedly led a two-man shortlist alongside Howe but pulled out of the race, releasing a statement confirming that he would remain at Villarreal.
“It is a great honour to become head coach of a club with the stature and history of Newcastle United. It is a very proud day for me and my family,” Howe said upon his appointment.
“This is a wonderful opportunity, but there is also a lot of work ahead of us and I am eager to get onto the training ground to start working with the players.

“I would like to thank the club’s owners for this opportunity and thank the club’s supporters for the incredible welcome they have already given me. I am very excited to begin our journey together.”
Director Staveley added: “We have been incredibly impressed by Eddie through what has been a rigorous recruitment process.
“As well as his obvious achievements with AFC Bournemouth, where he had a transformational impact, he is a passionate and dynamic coach who has clear ideas about taking this team and club forward.
“He is a great fit for what we are trying to build here. We are delighted to welcome Eddie and his staff to St. James’ Park and very much look forward to working together towards our collective ambitions.”
