Erling Haaland has left out any Premier League stars while listing his top three players in world football. The Borussia Dortmund striker has been linked with a transfer to England but has selected players in Germany, Spain and France as his three favourites.

Haaland is widely understood to have a clause in his Dortmund contract that will allow him to leave for a bargain figure in the summer transfer window.

A release clause believed to be in the region of £65million will likely prompt a bidding war come the end of the campaign.

Talks over the 21-year-old’s future have been played out in public. The player finally broke his silence in a blockbuster interview earlier this month, claiming that Dortmund want a decision on where he will play next season soon.

Premier League clubs Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have all been linked in the last year.

But Red Devils star Cristiano Ronaldo might be annoyed that Haaland has not named him in his top three players in world football.

Instead, the Norwegian has picked Robert Lewandowski, Karim Benzema and Lionel Messi. Haaland has been linked with each of the trio’s clubs – Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

“That’s a good question. I think you have to say Lewandowski is number one,” Haaland told Sky Sports.

“And then for me you have Benzema, he’s also been amazing, but Messi is also outstanding. So Benzema and Messi shared second and third place.”

Europe’s top clubs are all interested in signing Haaland.

The forward has earned a reputation as one of the continent’s best having scored a staggering 80 goals in just 79 appearances for Dortmund.

He signed for the Westfalonstadion outfit in January 2020 and has already become one of the best strikers in the world. He is perhaps too humble to not include himself in his top three.

But the former RB Salzburg player believes he can still improve on some aspects of his game. Including – incredibly – his finishing.

“I think I can improve on everything,” the starlet continued.

“If you say I am good at finishing, I can improve my finishing a lot. I can become faster, so I can improve that. I can become stronger, so I can improve that.

“But if I should improve one thing, it would be to not get injured, because if I am not injured I will play a lot more games and I will deliver even better.

“If you were to ask what my goals are for 2022, it is to not be injured, and the goals for the rest of my career are not be injured. That’s the main thing.”
