Donny van de Beek makes Manchester United transfer decision as relationship details emerge

Man Utd: Solskjaer assesses van de Beek performance

Donny van de Beek has decided to stay at Manchester United and fight for his place, according to reports. The Netherlands international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Inter Milan emerging as potential suitors. He’s struggled for minutes at the club following his arrival from Ajax, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

United signed Van de Beek for £40million back in the summer, with the Netherlands international arriving as an alternative to Jack Grealish.

But while he’s shown glimpses of his obvious talent, the 23-year-old has struggled for action.

Solskjaer has defended his use of the midfielder, insisting Van de Beek requires time to settle in England as he strides to become a major Old Trafford hit.

Inter Milan have been linked, however, with the Serie A giants keen to raid United for yet another player after previously snapping up Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.

Yet Dutch outlet Het Parool claim Van de Beek has decided to stay put.

It’s claimed he’s happy enough with life at United and doesn’t want to be seen as ‘giving up’ should he secure a loan move away.

Van de Beek moved to United because he thought they’d be able to offer him plenty of action, something that hasn’t happened just yet.

It’s claimed he’s bored – which is understandable given everything in Manchester is shut because of the coronavirus crisis.

But Van de Beek’s relationship with his girlfriend is going well, with the pair living in a ‘clear, calm bubble’ that’s free of ‘ballast and side issues’.

And it seems as though he won’t be on the move in January.

Several players could leave Old Trafford, however, with Solskjaer looking to use the window to trim his squad.

Tim Fosu-Mensah is nearing a move to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, having struggled for minutes at the club since Solskjaer’s appointment.

Argentine pair Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo will be allowed to depart as well, with the duo not making a single league appearance this season.

And United may cut Phil Jones loose if they can find a buyer, with Newcastle and West Ham previously being linked with the England international.

Solskjaer defended Van de Beek prior to his side’s clash with Watford on Saturday, saying: “I’ve answered this question so many times.

“There’s so many examples of players needing a little bit of time, quality players. We have many examples ourselves and there are other clubs with examples. Sometimes it takes time.

“You don’t expect people who care for him to be quiet at times, especially when they want the best for them.

“I’ve spoken to him and reiterated and made him aware of how much we rate him.”

Van de Beek could feature when United face off against Burnley on Tuesday night.

Victory for the Red Devils would see them climb above Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table ahead of their crunch showdown on Sunday.
