Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s response to ‘skirt’ heckles at hotel earned applause
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has promised to continue pushing fashion boundaries after being mocked by a section of social media for 'dressing like a schoolgirl'.
The England and Everton striker has showcased some of his bold looks on Instagram while impressing on the pitch, and has more than half a million followers on the platform.
Currently on the sidelines after suffering a set-back in his recovery from a fractured toe, Calvert-Lewin has scored 32 goals across his last 72 Premier League outings.
The former Sheffield United striker was in attendance at the Football For Change charity gala in Liverpool on Saturday night, and was targeted by a heckler who mocked his wearing of a 'skirt'.
The 24-year-old, who was on stage with Sir Rod Stewart, Jamie Carragher and host Russell Howard, was asked about his recent cover shoot with Arena HOMME+ magazine.
As he begun to talk, one guest repeatedly said the word 'skirt', and the Mirror report that Dominic hit back by saying: "Actually, they were culottes."
That earned a huge round of applause at the inaugural gala dinner to raise funds for disadvantaged young people.

On the HOMME+ magazine cover, Calvert-Lewin posed in a Prada outfit that included a white polka-dot shirt, matching blazer and tie, with culottes, which were confused by some to be a skirt.
“My style can be deemed a little bit different," Calvert-Lewin had previously told talkSPORT.
"But, for me, I do what I do and I am what I am. So I will continue to do that and I think, if anything, football has taught me that.
"Football has always been my biggest teacher and it has taught me self-confidence and that you have to believe in yourself at all times.
"So if I want to put on a suit, and not everyone is going to like it, then I am going to continue to do so."
Back on the pitch, Everton take on Manchester City, Brentford and Liverpool after the international break, with Calvert-Lewin hoping to return for the derby.
