Newcastle United are looking at a move for Divock Origi as they look for striker reinforcements following fears Callum Wilson could be out until the end of the season.
Eddie Howe’s No 9 went down towards the end of the first-half of Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on December 27, with early predictions suggesting he could be out for up to six weeks.
However, Sportsmail revealed that the striker is set to undergo a scan on Friday, with the worse case scenario set to rule the 29-year-old out for the remainder of the season in what would be a massive blow to survival hopes on Tyneside.
Divock Origi is among the names in the frame to bolster Newcastle’s attacking options
As a result, the club’s new owners have pushed on in their bid to provide Howe with more options up top.
And according to the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool forward Origi heads up that list, with another three names also mentioned in the same report.
Origi has made is name at Anfield by providing important back up to Liverpool’s front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah, and his knack for scoring important goals has made him something of a cult hero on Merseyside.
He grabbed the decisive goal in the memorable Champions League semi-final comeback against Barcelona, while he also grabbed the second goal in that year’s final against Tottenham.
Newcastle could lose Callum Wilson for the rest of the season if a scan reveals the worst
The publication also report that the Reds would be willing to let the forward go this month for just £7million, although his generous wages mean a deal will not be cheap.
Dominic Solanke is mentioned too, although promotion chasing Bournemouth are unlikely to be keen on a deal as they look to get back up to the Premier League. Todd Cantwell and Eddie Nketiah are also understood to be on the club’s radar.
Newcastle look set to announce their first January window arrival on Friday morning, with Kieran Trippier set to be unveiled after completing his move from Atletico Madrid on Thursday.
