Dimitar Berbatov tells Man Utd duo they need to start ‘working their a***s’ off

Dimitar Berbatov has told two of Manchester United's struggling signings that they need to knuckle down and 'work their a***s off'.

The former United striker has picked out Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund following their £55million move from Chelsea and £72m arrival from Atalanta respectively. Mount has one assist and no goals from his eight appearances in all competitions with Denmark forward Hojlund yet to get off the mark in the Premier League after seven games.

Speaking to Betfair, Berbatov said: "Mason Mount hasn't started in the way that everyone expected him to. Man United spent a lot of money on him. He's a really talented player but at the moment it's not working, and he'll know that. Everyone does.

‌"I'm sure he's working hard to produce in games because we know he can from his time at Chelsea. He needs games to build his confidence and he needs to re-establish his self-belief. That will only happen when he's allowed to play.

"When he makes mistakes, he must keep going. Man United paid a lot of money for him so he has to keep going and prove his worth.

"If he keeps going then it will pay off, the trouble is that it needs to pay off as soon as possible because the team are in a difficult position."

He added of Hojlund: "Rasmus Hojlund, too, will know that there's pressure on him to score goals. He's not scored yet in the Premier League and that's a burden on his shoulder. He'll know that.

‌"He'll want to score in the Premier League. You can see that with the effort that he's putting in. You can see that he's trying his best.

‌"My advice to Hojlund is to not over-complicate things. Just stick to who you are and what has given you success in the past. Work on your weaknesses and eventually it will pay off."

  • Create a winning approach on the tactics board, incorporating modern systems and positional innovations to deliver big victories on the pitch.
  • Master the transfer market, using new ways to craft a dream squad capable of winning titles.
  • Level up your players on the training field and turn your contenders into champions.

£39.99 (PS5), £40.49 (PC)

Berbatov, who won two Premier League titles with United, then gave his advice to the two struggling signings.

‌He said: "As I said before, that paying off needs to be right now because he's at Man United and he's not going anywhere. The only thing he needs to do, alongside Mason Mount, is to keep working on the training pitch.

‌"They need to block out the noise from the media and the fans and concentrate on their training. The only solution is to continue working your a*** off. In games, you just must hope that the whole team turns up."
