Diego Costa milks ovation from entire Stamford Bridge crowd after being subbed

Diego Costa milked a standing ovation from the entire Stamford Bridge crowd after being subbed for new club Wolves against Chelsea.

Costa returned to Stamford Bridge with Wolves following his move to the Molineux side in September. The 34-year-old made the switch after terminating his contract with Atletico Mineiro earlier this year.

The then free-agent attracted interest from Arsenal and West Ham, but a move never materialised. And the hardman admitted he was petrified when he filmed a bizarre announcement video with Wolves that saw him holding TWO WOLVES.

The striker's second game back in the Premier League saw him get re-acquainted with the Chelsea faithful who he built a bond with during his four-year stint in West London from 2014 to 2018. The Spanish attacker's return was cut short early in the second half as Wolves trailed 2-0 to the Blues following goals from Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.

Wolves' interim manager Steve Davis chose to haul Costa off in an attempt to try and salvage something from the game, but Costa decided to steal the show by slowly trudging around the pitch to the opposite side of the stadium where the dugout awaited.

And his slow walk prompted Blues fans to rise to their feet and applaud their former hero, a gesture which he gladly returned.

Costa even shook hands with some of the Chelsea crowd who witnessed him score 59 goals in 120 games across all competitions before he left to join Atletico Madrid. However, Chelsea and Costa's enthusiasm wasn't shared by Wolves fans who watched their side lose the game.

The agonising defeat comes just days after Wolves sacked ex-boss Bruno Lage. Lage was giving his marching orders when the club were defeated 2-0 by West Ham, a result which saw them fall into the relegation zone.
