Di Canio slams Mourinho to Roma as "worst of the worst" in leaked call

Paulo Di Canio brands Roma's appointment of Jose Mourinho "the worst of the worst" in a sensational private phone call which has been leaked online.

Mourinho has wasted little time in returning to management, with Roma confirming him as their new boss just two weeks after he was sacked by Tottenham.

The Portuguese, who is heading back to Italy 11 years after departing Inter Milan, will take over at the Stadio Olimpico this summer ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Yet while many believe Roma could be a good fit for him, Di Canio has instead hit out at the appointment of Mourinho in a private call and labelled him "finished".

The West Ham legend, who played for Roma's bitter rivals Lazio, reportedly left a phone message for a friend who is a fan of Mourinho's new club.

A clip of the message has made its way onto YouTube, where Di Canio's brutal assessment of the Special One has gained plenty of traction.

“You’ve got the worst of the worst,” he says in the recording.

“I understand you needed a big name at this moment, but it’s like when you sign a player who is finished.

“Mourinho just wanted a job with money, he’s had his third sacking in four years, kicked out from everywhere due to the incompatibility of his character and before that’s all he was good at, having character.
