Manchester United’s partners DHL and Cadbury have become the latest sponsors to release statements on striker Mason Greenwood, who has been released by police on bail after his arrest on suspicion of raping, sexually assaulting, threatening to kill and assaulting a woman.

The 20-year-old was bailed by police on Wednesday morning with a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson saying: “A 20-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman has been released on bail pending further investigation.”

Greenwood was initially arrested on suspicion of rape and assault on Sunday following the circulation on social media of distressing pictures and audio by a woman, who has since deleted the posts, alleging harm towards her.

He was taken in for questioning and then on Tuesday while still in custody the England international was re-arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Man United have confirmed that the player will not play for the club or train with his team-mates amid the police’s ongoing investigations.

The Red Devils also said in a statement: “We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

All merchandise bearing Greenwood’s name or image has been taken down from United’s online retail store.

Nike are have suspended their relationship with the player and said they are “deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations” and “will continue to closely monitor the situation”.

And United’s shirt sponsor Teamviewer said that they are ‘closely monitoring developments’ according to the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile United’s official partner Cadbury says Greenwood will not be used in any marketing products “while these allegations are being investigated”.

That has been followed by a statement from the club’s official logistics partner DHL.

They said: “We are aware of the recent allegations against Manchester United footballer, Mason Greenwood.

“While we do not tolerate any kind of violence, we will not be commenting on the situation while the investigation is ongoing.

“Our partnership with Manchester United encompasses the team, the club and the global brand, and not one specific individual.”

Greenwood has played 24 times for United this season and scored six goals across all competitions.

He has featured 129 times overall for the club since his first-team debut in March 2019, having joined United’s academy aged six, and scored 36 times.

United’s next match sees them take on Championship side Middlesbrough at Old Trafford this Friday night in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
