Derby County have entered administration and been deducted 12 points by the English Football League, it has been confirmed.

The Championship club revealed their intention to enter administration last Friday, with owner Mel Morris blaming the Covid-19 pandemic for a £20million loss in revenue.

Morris has reportedly spent the last few days talking to players and staff at the club, whose jobs are now under threat.

Wayne Rooney's side are rock-bottom of the Championship following their points deduction, six points adrift of Sheffield Wednesday on -2.

The club released a statement confirming that Andrew Hosking, Carl Jackson and Andrew Andronikou, managing directors at business advisory firm Quantuma, have been appointed joint administrators of the Rams.

Hosking, Quantuma managing director and joint administrator, said: "I can confirm that Andrew Andronikou, Carl Jackson and I were appointed joint administrators of Derby County Football Club today.

"Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the finances of the club and its long-term ability to continue in its current form.

"We recognise that with the commencement of the 2021/22 season last month, this news will be of concern to stakeholders and fans, in addition to the city of Derby and the wider football community.

"We are in the early stages of assessing the options available to the club and would invite any interested parties to come forward.

"Our immediate objectives are to ensure the club completes all its fixtures in the Championship this season and finding interested parties to safeguard the club and its employees."

Morris assumed control at Pride Park in 2015 but has actively been looking to sell the club since June 2019 following their play-off final defeat to Aston Villa.

The computer tycoon has seen various attempts to sell Derby thwarted despite seemingly being on the verge of an agreement with interest parties.

Earlier this year, Derventio Holdings, who were backed by the Abu Dhabi-based Bin Zayed Group, saw their takeover bid come to nothing while another from Spanish businessman Erik Alonso didn't go anywhere either.

Morris's failure to sell the club has led to the current dire situation, with Rooney now facing an uphill task just to keep the Rams in the division.
