Denmark vs Finland will RESUME at 7.30pm UK time after match was earlier suspended when Christian Eriksen collapsed during the first half

Denmark’s match will Finland will resume at 7.30pm UK time following Christian Eriksen’s shock collapse on the pitch earlier in the afternoon. 

The midfielder collapsed towards the end of the first-half and needed urgent resuscitation before being carried off the pitch whilst sitting up and wearing an oxygen mask. 

The Danish FA confirmed that the 29-year-old is now awake and stabilised in hospital and is receiving further checks, with the match now set to resume this evening.

Eriksen collapsed in the first-half and needed CPR treatment but is now stable in hospital

The statement from the Denmark FA said: ‘Christian Eriksen is awake and his condition remains stable. He remains hospitalised at Rigshospitalet for further examinations. 

‘The match against Finland will be played tonight. This happens after the players have been confirmed that Christian is okay. The match resumes at 20.30.’

UEFA confirmed that both sets of players wanted the game to resume tonight and the match will see the first-half resume, followed by a five-minute half-time break and then the second-half. 

The statement read: ‘Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET (TBC). 

‘The last five minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.’

The 29-year-old Danish midfielder went down unchallenged five minutes before the end of the half and required urgent medical assistance in distressing scenes in Copenhagen, which saw the match called off just after 6pm.

Medical staff were seen doing intense resuscitation procedures for several minutes as his visibly upset Danish team-mates circled the medical staff while the 29-year-old was beating attended to.

Erisksen was seen coming off the pitch in an oxygen mask and an image revealed the 29-year-old sitting upright following the ordeal.  

Another statement from the Danish FA read: ‘Christian Eriksen is AWAKE and is undergoing further examinations at Rigshospitalet.’ 

Eriksen received messages of support from figures across the football world, including former Bolton midfielder Fabrice Muamba who suffered a cardiac arrest during a FA Cup match against Tottenham in 2011, who tweeted: ‘Please God’.
