Dembele speaks out, Newcastle close in on Carlos, Lingard deal ‘difficult’
As another vital weekend creeps up on Newcastle United in the fight for Premier League survival, the club has faced more frustration in their efforts to add to the squad.
A number of names have been linked following the arrivals of Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood, although as of yet the Magpies have not drafted in the centre-back or the forward they evidently seem to be chasing.
With more than half the campaign gone and still just one win on the board for Eddie Howe's side, the urgency to do business this month will surely intensify after this weekend's clash with Leeds United.

Dembele speaks out
Ousmane Dembele has been linked with a move to Newcastle in recent weeks and it was confirmed on Thursday by Barcelona that the France international winger would be leaving the club this month.
Dembele's contract at the Camp Nou is set to expire at the end of the season and despite negotiations being held between both parties, an agreement has not been reached.
Since confirmation of an imminent departure came through from Barcelona, Dembele has responded on Instagram (h/t BBC Sport).
"From today it finishes," he said. "From today I am going to reply honestly, without giving in to any kind of blackmail.
"I forbid anyone from thinking I am not committed to the sporting project. I forbid anyone from attributing intentions to me that I have never had."
Carlos competition
According to Sky Sports, Newcastle are close to agreeing a deal for Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, but they could still face competition for the player's signature.
The 28-year-old has been a target for the Magpies throughout January and it would appear they are close to agreeing a £30 million deal with the Andalusian club. Carlos did feature for Sevilla on Wednesday, as they drew 1-1 with Valencia.
However, another Premier League team are said to have matched the sum put forward by Newcastle from London.
It's said an Italian club have also put forward a package for the player, although the offer is less than that posed by the English outfits.
Lingard deal 'difficult'
According to Pete Graves of Sky Sports, Newcastle may find it "difficult" to do a loan deal for Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard.
It's added a permanent deal could yet be done between the two clubs though, as the "player could be tempted by big offer" and United "would sell at right price this month."
Lingard's contract is up at the end of the season, meaning Newcastle would potentially be able to sign the England international for a reduced fee on his market value.
The 29-year-old has struggled for minutes at Old Trafford this season. Last term he also moved away from United on a mid-season loan, excelling at West Ham United with nine goals and four assists in 16 games.
