West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice reflected on eating late night McDonalds during the Hammers’ ‘special’ Europa League venture.
David Moyes’ side reached the semi-finals of the competition last season, knocking off sides like Lyon and Europa League specialists Sevilla along the way. They were eventually downed by an Eintracht Frankfurt side who went on to win the whole competition and seal a place in the Champions League.
Rice played in all but two matches during the competition, contributing three goals along the way. However, as is so often the case with football adventures like the one the England international embarked on, Rice relishes the little experiences that formed a water tight togetherness between the East Londoners.

“The whole experience of it will stay with me forever,” Rice said to the Joe Cole cast. “We used to come back from places like Vienna, we would have to stay back in Stratford.
“A load of the lads would get back at like one o’clock in the morning. We would get a deliveroo in and eating McDonalds like me, Nobes (Mark Noble), Cres (Aaron Creswell) and we had just won a game.
“It was just like ‘this is unreal’. It just felt so special. And then the next day we would come in and have breakfast, we’d have a laugh. Spending the time away, even though we was away a lot, it was really, really special.”

West Ham sealed their progression into the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League with five wins out of five group matches in their division.
They have already swept Anderlecht, Silkeborg, and FCSB aside, and will keenly and confidently await their opponents in the round of 16. And while the box-to-box midfielder cannot help but smile when he reflects on West Ham’s last run, he pledged to do it all again with the Hammers.
“We look back on it all the time and we talk about it, like we would go back to those days tomorrow,” Rice added. “It was sad in a way because you’re not going to experience that again with the players we had at the time. But it will come again.”
