Dean Henderson 'expects to be No 1 at Manchester United next season'

Dean Henderson ‘expects to be No 1 at Manchester United next season as future gets even more unclear for £50m-rated David de Gea’… but Old Trafford chiefs are ‘keen to buy ANOTHER goalkeeper’ to usurp them both in the summer

  • David de Gea’s future at the club is in doubt as he will miss at least five games
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of Henderson and does not want to sell him

Dean Henderson expects to be Manchester United’s N o1 goalkeeper next season with David de Gea’s future at the club in doubt, according to the Sun.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to be without his first-choice goalkeeper for the rest of the month after De Gea travelled back to Spain for the birth of his first child, who was delivered on Thursday.

Henderson will replace the Spaniard as the No 1 at Old Trafford for at least the next five games in his absence and has a major opportunity to stake his claim for permanent residency between the sticks.

But the 23-year-old has his eyes set on a more permanent stay between the sticks for Man United.

Reports from the Daily Record claim that the club are considering selling both Henderson and De Gea in the summer – but Henderson’s future at the club does look more promising.

After returning from a very successful loan spell at Sheffield United, Henderson had been left frustrated at his position on the bench for the majority of the campaign.

However, he now has a chance to prove his patient waiting on the sidelines has been worth it and he has been vocal before about his passion to become the first-choice at United.

Borussia Dortmund and Tottenham, looking for a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris, were among the clubs looking at a loan deal for Henderson.

Solskjaer is a huge fan of the 23-year-old stopper and has no intentions of selling him and sees him as a big part of the club’s future.

Henderson is still in the first year of his massive six-year deal at Old Trafford that he signed last August, earning him £100,000 per week.

De Gea’s future at the club is uncertain as he enters the final two years of his contract

Meanwhile, De Gea is approaching the end of his lucrative deal with the Red Devils, where he earns a whopping £375,000 per week.

Back in 2015, the Spanish international almost left United to join Real Madrid in a last-gasp deadline day move, but the transfer was not completed in time and the LaLiga giants took their interest elsewhere, eventually signing Thibaut Courtois.

De Gea has two years left on his deal at United, and the club will want to cash in on him rather than let him leave for free, with his current value around £50million.
