Dean Henderson earning League Two club £10,000 every time he plays for Man Utd

League Two side Carlisle United are still raking in cash off the back of Dean Henderson almost a decade since he left the club.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper was sold to Manchester United at the age of 14 in a deal containing a profitable clause.

As part of the original agreement between the two clubs, Carlisle receive £10,000 every time Henderson makes an appearance for United.

In recent seasons that has not been particularly helpful, given Henderson has spent the last four-and-a-half years out on loan prior to this campaign.

However, as The Sun reports, Carlisle are now quids in following Henderson's promotion to No.2 at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tendency to use Henderson in cup competitions – as well as a couple of minor injuries to David de Gea – have seen him rack up a total of 13 appearances already this season.

That has pocketed Carlisle the tidy sum of £130,000, with more expected to come.

Henderson is now pushing for de Gea's regular starting role, but is believed to be considering his future if he does not have assurances he will usurp the Spaniard for next season.

Solskjaer has previously stated that Henderson will be the club's first-choice goalkeeper at some stage, though the England hopeful is not prepared to wait around much longer for his chance.

Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund have been linked with a move for Henderson, who could opt to kick-start his career elsewhere this summer.

A transfer would also benefit Carlisle, who had a 5 per cent sell-on clause inserted into their agreement with United.

Given Henderson is now valued at upwards of £20million, Carlisle would get a handsome windfall in return.

Speaking about his back-up stopper earlier this month, Solskjaer said: "Dean has played well whenever he's got the chance. He's matured and for me he's developed his game.

Who should be United's No.1 goalkeeper? Have your say below.

"I know he's not played as many games as he would have last season, but you see every game when he plays and in training his improvement.

"He's working hard on a couple of aspects of his game we've spoken about with him, and I've been impressed with his attitude and work rate.

"Of course, he's not the most patient guy. He wants to play every game because he knows he'll perform well, so long may it continue because he's improved since he came [back] here."
