Davinson Sanchez insists Harry Kane doesn’t make Tottenham a one-man team
Davinson Sanchez claims Tottenham are not a one-man team – but admits their other big stars need to follow Harry Kane’s lead.
Kane came back early from his ankle injuries to inspire Sunday’s 2-0 win over West Brom, scoring one goal while Heung-min Son got the other.
That helped Spurs stop the rot after three straight defeats and Kane is now tied with Bobby Smith as the club’s second greatest scorer of all-time.
Tottenham still sit eighth in the league, with Kane and Son the only players at the club to score more than three times in the top flight this season.
But Sanchez claims the Spurs dressing room is packed with other top class internationals – and admits it’s time they ALL started showing some leadership.
The Colombia defender said: “It’s not just Harry. We have a lot of internationals to keep helping us this season.
“Other players play for their national team and that means a lot. In one way or another, it can really help.
“Of course he is England captain, he is a captain for us and a leader and all the other players also need to be that way.
“He has a lot of experience and we look up to him. We look to him to help keep pushing the team, to make sure he pushes all of us.
“All of us can learn and he is one of the leaders, an example to all of us about how we can improve.”
Defeats to Liverpool, Brighton and Chelsea had some Spurs fans questioning whether Jose Mourinho should be sacked.
But Kane’s return has eased that pressure and restored some confidence ahead of a big week for Tottenham.
They face Everton in the FA Cup tomorrow (Weds), Premier League leaders Manchester City this Saturday, and Wolfsburg in the Europa League next week.
Sanchez said: “It’s an exciting challenge for us. It’s my fourth year here and I have been a lot of the time in a high position in the league.
“But now we have a chance to reach another final. We have big games in the Premier League and every competition is now a big challenge for us.
“We want to beat Everton to try to keep going in the FA Cup then of course in the Europa League, and we are also in the Carabao Cup final.
"We are going to try go far in the Europa League. We can have a good season. There can be no more excuses for us not to keep pushing.”
