David Moyes’ very first Man Utd XI and where they are now eight years on
Manchester United's decision to appoint David Moyes as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor in 2013 may have ended in disappointment, but things actually started quite well for the Scot at Old Trafford.
Moyes guided the Red Devils to a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic in his first match in charge to win the Community Shield and claim his first piece of major silverware as a manager.
Success was to be short-lived for the former Everton boss, who lasted just 10 months in the job before being sacked to become the third-shortest reigning manager in United's history.
It all started so well for Moyes, but what happened to the players he named in his first ever game as Man United boss? Daily Star Sport decided to take a look.

David de Gea
Goalkeeper De Gea featured 48 times for Moyes before the Scot was given the boot from Old Trafford in April 2014.
He has remained at United ever since, racking up over 400 appearances despite speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.
Rafael
Rafael joined from Fluminese in 2008 and helped United to a Premier League and League Cup double in his first season at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian soon became the club's first choice right-back but saw his game time gradually decrease before he left for Lyon in 2015.
After a five-year spell in Ligue 1, Rafael is now with big-spending Turkish Super Lig side Istanbul Basaksehir.
Phil Jones
Former Blackburn Rovers centre-half Jones was likened to United great Duncan Edwards after his move from Ewood Park in 2011.
But unfortunately for Jones, injuries and poor form have seen him struggle for regular game time under a succession of managers.
He has made just 225 appearances for United across ten seasons at Old Trafford and is contracted to the club until 2023.
Nemanja Vidic
Legendary United centre-back Vidic left the club to join Inter Milan in 2014 having made over 300 appearances for the Red Devils.

He spent two seasons with the Italian giants before hanging up his boots in 2016 to pursue a coaching career. Vidic was offered the chance to become United's Under-23 coach but did not take the role.
Patrice Evra
Evra will go down as one of United's greatest ever left-backs after his bargain signing from Monaco for a fee of £5.5million in 2006.
The Frenchman made over 300 appearances at Old Trafford before departing for Juventus in 2014. He later joined Marseille but did return to the Premier League for a brief spell with West Ham in 2018.
Although Evra is now retired, he is still a regular presence on TV screens as a pundit for Sky Sports.
Tom Cleverley
Midfielder Cleverley was a regular starter in Ferguson's last season at United and Moyes' ill-fated spell as boss, making 63 appearances across two seasons for both managers.
He linked up with Everton in 2015 and spent two seasons at Goodison Park prior to joining Watford in 2017, where he remains.
Michael Carrick
Carrick retired from football in 2018 but remains at United as a first-team coach under current boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
He won every domestic honour available in 12 seasons as a player at Old Trafford and racked up a grand total of 464 appearances for the Red Devils.
Ryan Giggs
Giggs was in his 24th season as a United player when Moyes was appointed in 2014, and the Scot's departure would lead to Giggs calling time on his own playing career.
The Welshman took caretaker charge at Old Trafford after Moyes' sacking and won two, drew one and lost one of his four games as boss. He is currently manager of Wales – a post he has held since 2018.
Robin van Persie
Dutch legend Van Persie scored the first goal of Moyes' reign in what would prove to be his penultimate season as a United player.
He left the club in 2015 to join Fenerbahce where he spent three seasons before retiring with boyhood club Feyenoord in 2019. Van Persie is currently assistant manager at the Eredivisie side.
Danny Welbeck
One of the few players to make any real impact under Moyes was Danny Welbeck. The England star hit nine Premier League goals in Moyes' one season in charge but left the club in August 2014 to join Arsenal.
An injury hit five-year spell at the Emirates ended in 2019 when he signed for Watford, and after the Hornets' relegation from the Premier League, he joined Brighton.
