David Moyes to sign new West Ham contract as he gives latest on summer transfers
David Moyes is ready to commit his long-term future to West Ham – but has warned fans he won’t be spending big this summer.
The Hammers boss, whose side face West Brom on Wednesday night, is on the verge of signing a new three-year deal at London Stadium.
But despite watching West Ham's Champions League push falter after failing to buy a striker in January, he does not expect the club to splash the cash.
Moyes said: “We’re pretty well down the lane with my contract. Is it a long-term deal? You can say that. That’s the plan.
“It’s not quite done. There are few bits to get done where not all the edges are fixed. I will probably wait for these last two games to tie it up.”
Moyes insists he has no regrets about missing out on a series of transfer targets in January after failing with a £27m bid for Sevilla star Youssef En-Nesyri.
But despite keeping his powder dry he insists he won’t pay over the odds this summer for a striker, with Chelsea's Tammy Abraham among a long list of potential targets.
Moyes said: “I can't see West Ham being a club who can spend a big chunk of money to get success. I don't think we're able to do that.
“We'll probably have to put another layer of bricks on it. Then you get to a level where you're stable, competitive, consistent.
“That's the way for West Ham to build. Everybody wants a quick fix now, but it can't always be a quick fix unless you're bringing in bundles and bundles of cash.
“I don’t think we’ve got loads of cash and will be buying lots of players. We’ve done well in the last couple of windows. We’ll be hoping to do something similar.
“I don’t think the clubs have got big bundles of cash to spend this summer. I don’t think there’s going to be much business about.”
