David Moyes 'faces being sacked if West Ham lose to Everton'
Under-pressure David Moyes ‘could ironically take over Frank Lampard at Everton if they beat his struggling West Ham on Saturday and he gets the sack’
- David Moyes’ job has come under major scrutiny following West Ham’s poor run
- Hammers are currently 18th in the Premier League – with just four wins this year
- Reports have emerged that Moyes could be axed if West Ham lose to Everton
- Moyes could then succeed Lampard at Everton – where he managed for 11 years
Under-pressure David Moyes could ironically make a return to Everton if the Toffees beat his struggling West Ham on Saturday, according to reports.
It is understood Moyes will be axed as West Ham boss if the Hammers lose their crunch relegation clash with Everton.
The two Premier League strugglers – who are level on 15 points along with Southampton – will meet at the London Stadium in what has become a fixture dominated by the futures of Moyes and his counterpart Frank Lampard.
David Moyes will reportedly be axed as West Ham boss if the Hammers lose against Everton
Moyes could then ironically succeed Everton boss Frank Lampard whose Toffees side are grappling with relegation
West Ham, who are 18th in the league, have won just four games all season, while the 19th-placed Toffees have only won three.
Telegraph Sport has reported that should West Ham lose, Moyes will be sacked – but the former Everton boss could then be the favourite to succeed Lampard at Goodison Park.
Moyes spent more than a decade at Everton and with huge levels of unrest at Goodison Park, he may be rushed in to help the Toffees rescue their dismal season.
West Ham have been supportive of Moyes and would ideally like him to be the man to turn their season around, but if the Hammers lose to a failing Everton side, it may be impossible not to sack the Scot.
Nuno Espirito Santo, Rafael Benitez and Sean Dyche have been tipped as potential short-term replacements for Moyes – who could be sent in to help keep the Hammers up.
Everton likewise have supported Lampard – with majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri publicly backing the Chelsea legend.
The two Premier League clubs, who are level on 15 points, meet in what could be a pivotal fixture for both managers
Everton fans have showed their discontent at the club’s Board this season with protests
Lampard remains a popular figure to many at Goodison despite the fans turning on the Board – after he saved them from relegation last season.
But with both sides facing relegation, the respective Boards may have no option than to find alternatives.
West Ham’s poor form comes despite Moyes being backed by more than £100m to spend in the summer – which included signing Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca who have both failed to reach expectations.
Lampard on the other hand has been neglected of any financial backing in the market – with Everton conscious of FFP rules.
Even if Moyes’ West Ham do win against Everton, the Scot’s future will remain a talking point.
The club’s ownership structure has been thrust into focus by the passing of joint-chairman and majority shareholder David Gold.
If, as sources have indicated, the club’s second largest shareholder Daniel Kretinsky launches a takeover bid, you would expect him to make his own managerial appointment.
