West Ham would love to sign Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal this summer, according to their manager David Moyes. Lingard has made a huge impact with the Hammers since joining them on loan in January but faces an uncertain future.
The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has impressed by scoring nine goals and registering three assists in 13 Premier League matches for his new club over the past few months.
Lingard had been completely frozen out of the picture at United by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and moved to east London mid-season in order to try and revive his career.
That eventuality has come to pass under Moyes, but with one year left on his United contract it remains unclear what the summer will hold.
His form has been rewarded with a return to the England squad and has reportedly attracted the attention of several clubs, including Leicester and Borussia Dortmund, ahead of the transfer window opening on June 9.
While Moyes understands that West Ham might struggle to match the financial packages of other suitors, he is hopeful the club can agree a deal with United to keep Lingard beyond the end of this month.

“He’s joined a team in great spirits and we’re doing great things. He’s added to that and given another dimension too,” he told reporters on Friday.
“We’ve enjoyed having him and I’m sure he’s enjoyed being here too because he’s given a lot.
“He’s been back in the England squad and I hope he goes to the Euros and we’ll find out in time whether he’ll be a Manchester United player or not next season.
“I’m not sure how realistic it is. Jesse has enjoyed himself I hope. He’s Man United’s player so they can decide what to do with him.
“If they let him go then I’d hope he’d consider us.”
Lingard’s arrival in January has helped West Ham become unlikely challengers for a Champions League place.

Ahead of this weekend’s match against Brighton, the Hammers are sixth, and six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, with wins for Leicester and Liverpool in mid-week denting their hopes.
However, with a game in-hand on Thomas Tuchel’s side, who also have the FA Cup final and Champions League final to consider, Moyes has not given up hope of earning a place in Europe’s top club competition next season.
“I think we have a better chance now than what we had at the start of the season. I think we’re in a better position now,” he said.
“It still looks like a distant sort of dream, but anyway we’ll keep dreaming and we’ll keep trying to do it.
“I think if you’d given me any form of European football I would have snapped your hand off, so that’s what we’re going to try and achieve.”
