David de Gea and Anthony Martial’s Man Utd absences at Crystal Palace explained

Manchester United were without both David de Gea and Anthony Martial for Wednesday night's clash with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

De Gea had kept a clean sheet during the stalemate against Chelsea on Sunday.

French striker Martial had been used a second-half substitute at Stamford Bridge too, having been overlooked for the starting lineup.

Neither man was included in the squad for the meeting with Roy Hodgson's side at Selhurt Park however.

Lee Grant was the backup 'keeper on the bench, which also featured young pair Shola Shoretire and Amad.

Speaking pre-game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that De Gea's omission was down to "personal reasons".

Martial however had suffered a knee injury in training on Monday, the Norwegian revealed.

"Anthony [Martial] got a knock in training on Monday, on his knee, so not ready for this.

"Hopefully ready for the weekend but we're not sure yet."

Making four changes to the side that drew with Chelsea, Solskjaer handed recalls to the starting XI to Eric Bailly, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani.

Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay and Daniel James had to settle for a spot on the bench having all started on Sunday.

Hodgson made one change from Sunday’s stalemate with Fulham with James McCarthy recalled in place of Jairo Riedewald, who was listed as a substitute.

Jeffrey Schlupp and Connor Wickham were also available again after muscle injuries.
