David Beckham’s son Romeo curls in free-kick cutting spitting image of dad
David Beckham’s son Romeo has cut a spitting image of his dad’s trademark free kick in a new clip.
The Englishman spent 11 years at Manchester United as a graduate of the ‘Class of 92, scoring 85 goals in his nearly 400 appearances before heading to Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan and PSG.
Making it 146 strikes over his career for club and country, the former midfielder scored 65 of them from a free-kick scenario to earn the motto “Bend It Like Beckham”.
And footage has emerged of son Romeo, 18, taking that quote to heart during a training session as he put in a carbon-copy attempt of dad David.
In the clip, who has been training at Beckham Sr’s club Inter Miami with their reserve side Fort Lauderdale FC, is out on the pitch to practice his set pieces.
With a three-man wall in front of the teenager, he aims for the top-left corner of the net which is 30 yards away.
Running up and swinging a right foot at the ball, it flies into the goal as Romeo celebrates with a small fist pump.
The video was shared on the teenager’s Instagram page on Tuesday, where dad David – who was tagged in the post with “practice makes perfect” – replies: “You’re welcome.”
And Romeo’s goal certainly brings back memories of the same strike his dad performed to send England to the 2002 World Cup.
Taking on Greece at Old Trafford, they were facing a play-off qualifier against Ukraine for the tournament as the Three Lions were 2-1 down.

But defender Michailis Kasipis’ foul on Teddy Sheringham 30 yards from goal gave Beckham the opportunity to secure a draw – and the top of Group 9 due to Germany’s 0-0 draw against Finland.
And the midfielder’s right-footer curler left goalkeeper Antonis Nikopolidis rooted to the ground as the Englishman round the top-left corner, sending his country to the World Cup.
