Darwin Nunez credits Marcelo Bielsa instead of Klopp for classy Liverpool brace
Darwin Nunez has credited Marcelo Bielsa following his match-winning brace on Sunday. The Uruguay striker scored two late goals as 10-man Liverpool came from behind to beat Newcastle 2-1.
Jurgen Klopp is backing Darwin Nunez to have a great second season with Liverpool
Nunez was again named on the bench for the third successive match this season. But he has certainly given Jurgen Klopp food for thought with his performance as a second-half substitute.
The 24-year-old came on in the 77th minute and equalised just four minutes later. The turnaround was complete in the third minute of stoppage time with another expert finish as Liverpool held out for a famous win.
But Nunez has now revealed how recent conversations with his new international boss have helped. Bielsa was appointed Uruguay manager in May, 15 months after being sacked by Leeds.

Nunez says the experienced boss has given him advice on aspects of his game that need improving. He told Sport 890: “Bielsa showed me some things that seem positive to improve. I hope to meet him next week and do my best for the team.”
He added: “Some things he thinks are better. Like, when the opposing team is behind, not to run in front of the second centre-back: to run behind so that he loses the mark. It was a very good chat with him. It’s a new stage with the national team and I hope it goes well.”
Nunez admits he has been frustrated by his lack of game time at Liverpool. However, he believes he has channelled his anger in the right way.
He said: “The minutes that I have to play I always try to give my best. When I have to be on the bench, I go in angry in a good way because I always want to demonstrate.

The 23/24 home shirt for Liverpool pays homage to the past of the club, as well as collaborator Nike, with a strong 1970s influence. The iconic red, capped with bold white cuffs and collar really does invoke that classic Liverpool FC style while adding a cool retro touch
“The hug with Klopp after the game shows the good relationship there is. I’m very happy for my moment. I always prepare myself in the best way for when it’s my turn.”
Nunez has also stressed his desire to take Luis Suarez’s No 9 shirt when the former Liverpool star is not on international duty. He said: “I spoke with Luis on some occasion, that when he was not there I was going to take the 9 shirt of the national team and I was going to represent him.
“I already asked the team to keep it for me. I feel prepared for this new stage. I am very confident.”
