Danny Murphy thinks Trent Alexander-Arnold could miss World Cup spot

Danny Murphy believes that Gareth Southgate will leave Trent Alexander-Arnold out of his England squad for November’s World Cup.
The England manager is set to name his England squad for this month’s final Nations League matches next month and still has some big decisions to make before his shapes his plans for Qatar.
One of which will be at full-back, where Southgate has the luxury of picking from a number of favourable options, including Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold.

Trent is one of a number of options available to Gareth Southgate for England’s right-back spot
However, talking on talkSPORT former England midfielder Murphy isn’t convinced that the Reds star has a spot on the plane. Stating that not only would he not start, but won’t go to Qatar.
‘I don’t think Trent goes. I do not think that Southgate will pick him.’
Despite claiming Southgate won’t pick him, Murphy would take the Liverpool star because he offers something some of the other options at right-back do not.
‘Would I pick him? Yes! Everyone will have different choices because we are blessed with them [right-backs].
‘The thing Trent gives you that none of the others can’t is he can do things from an attacking point of view that the others can’t. He sees passes they don’t see and he can cross the ball better than any of them. Trent is a creative player.’
Gareth Southgate will announce his squad for this month’s Nations League games tomorrow
The 23-year-old has struggled to nail down a regular starting birth under Southgate, with the England manager’s preference down the right often going towards one of Reece James or Kyle Walker.
By also adding Kieran Trippier to the equation, who has been deployed on the left previously showing his versatility, the competition is fierce in one of England’s strongest areas.
Alexander-Arnold has come under some fire so far this season thanks to Liverpool’s stuttering start to the season and his defensive abilities have come into question.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has failed to nail down a regular starting spot under Gareth Southgate
The defender was at fault for Ajax’s goal in their 2-1 victory on Tuesday night after failing to track the run from Steven Berghuis for Mohammad Kudus’ equaliser, and was also guilty of poor defending in the Reds defeat in Napoli a week ago.
Alexander-Arnold has so far won 17 caps for his country, scoring one goal but missed the Three Lions’ run to the Euro 2020 Final after withdrawing from the squad through injury just before the tournament.
England will play Italy and Germany in their final Nations League games, the last round of matches before they begin their World Cup preparations ahead of the finals kicking off on November 21st.
