Daniel Sturridge joins Perth Glory – ending 18-month spell out the game
Former Liverpool hero Daniel Sturridge has ended his free agency nightmare by signing for Australian side Perth Glory.
Sturridge has been without a club for 18 months after he mutually ended his deal at Turkish side Trabzonspor.
The former Merseyside man had served a four-month ban after he was charged with passing on information to family members about a possible transfer during his time at the Reds.
Sturridge did go on trial with La Liga side RCD Mallorca over the summer, but it led to nothing.
Now the 32-year-old has travelled to Australia to sign his first professional contract in over a year-and-a-half.
"It’s a fantastic opportunity to try a new challenge," Sturridge told the clubs website shortly after finalising his move.
"When the opportunity came about, it felt like the right thing to do, to take my talent somewhere where I can enjoy my football in a competitive league and try and help the team be as successful as they possibly can be.
"I’m going to put my best foot forward, work hard and try and help the team win each game that comes by and then we’ll see where we end up when the season finishes.
"I can’t wait to play at HBF Park and hopefully put a smile on a lot of faces."

Sturridge isn't the first English player to head down under to try and kick start their career.
Emile Heskey famously moved to the Newcastle Jets in 2012 after he moved on from Aston Villa.
And, like Heskey, as his career was winding down, Robbie Fowler turned out for both North Queensland Jets and Perth Glory before hanging up his boots.
Former England youth international Matt Derbyshire also looked for a late-career renaissance with Macarthur FC.
And in a move that closely resembles Sturridge's, Francis Jeffers tried to reboot his career at the Newcastle Jets in 2011.
The A-League, the league that Perth Glory competes in, was rebranded this week.
The men's and the women's league will now be collectively under the umbrella term A-League, with them being known as A-League Men and A-League Women separately.
The A-League made this decision as they look to strive towards equality in the game.
