The Blues have had an upsurge in results recently which has helped ease the pressure on Potter following a largely disappointing first season at Stamford Bridge.
But further negativity between now and the end of the season could still leave Chelsea’s owners with a decision to make and the fact Nagelsmann is readily available may be a factor.
Indeed, Levy is acutely aware of how difficult it is likely to be to attract Nagelsmann to Spurs given he is likely to have numerous options over the forthcoming weeks and months.
And the Spurs chairman has already started trying to determine the chances of successfully enticing Nagelsmann to north London and there is some hope that the head coach is ready to listen to what Tottenham have to offer.
The club have already compiled an exhaustive list of alternative candidates with Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi, Marco Silva, Steve Cooper, Thomas Frank, Sergio Conceicao, Oliver Glasner and Ange Postecoglu among the names in the frame.
Mauricio Pochettino’s return would appease sections of the fanbase but his appointment is rated as doubtful.
Levy may be required to play more of a central role than expected in the club’s search for a new manager given the uncertainty over managing director of football Fabio Paratici’s position.
Paratici – who was one of Conte’s biggest allies – has been hit with a suspension in Italy as part of an investigation into alleged financial wrong-doing at Juventus.
The uncertainty surrounding the Italian administrator could be further complicated after a court case was postponed until May 10.
The preliminary hearing of a criminal investigation into the allegations of Juventus and individuals who worked at the club, in which Paratici is named as one the defendants, started on Monday but was immediately postponed by just over six weeks.
While the club move forward with their plans to appoint a new head coach, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason have been placed in temporary charge of the team.
And their caretaker reign has already been dealt its first major blow as it emerged right wing-back Emerson Royal requires surgery after damaging his knee while playing for Brazil.
Left-sided defender Ben Davies was last week ruled out for up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.
Conte posted on his Instagram page on Monday: ‘I would like to deeply thank everyone at Spurs who appreciated and shared my passion and my intense way of living football as a coach.
‘A special thought to the fans who always showed me support and appreciation, it’s been unforgettable to hear them signing my name.
‘Our journey together has ended, I wish you all the best for the future.’
