Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reportedly considering a total of nine potential managers as he begins his search to replace Antonio Conte, who is poised to leave the club before the end of the international break. The Italian coach looks to be headed for the exit in north London after internal discussions were held regarding his future earlier this week, which resulted in a decision being made to relieve him of his duties.

Conte’s tenure soured to the point of no return after last weekend’s 3-3 draw with Southampton, when he launched into a stunning tirade against the club and his players in his post-match press conference. Levy was said to have discussed the situation with his closest confidants in the wake of the fixture and has since decided to wield the axe, with Conte set to leave Tottenham once a compensation package has been agreed.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who are reporting that internal discussions over the terms of Conte’s exit are now underway at Hotspur Way. It is also said that Levy has wasted no time in drawing up a list of potential replacements, with as many as nine high-profile names said to be under consideration as things stand.

Thomas Tuchel, Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique have reportedly emerged as three of the main contenders for the role, with each manager having been linked with the future vacancy at Tottenham over the last few weeks. A handful of other bosses have also been identified as possible targets including Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is expected to become one of the most highly sought-after managers in Europe later this year.

Marco Silva is believed to be another option for Tottenham after leading Fulham into contention for a top-six finish in their first season back in the Premier League since their promotion at the end of the previous campaign. The 45-year-old, who has also previously managed Everton and Watford, was quick to distance himself from the speculation earlier this month but continues to be mentioned in connection with Spurs in spite of his public refusal to entertain the prospect of leaving Fulham.

“You know my contract,” replied Silva when quizzed on the topic at a press conference. “I have this season and another year on my contract at this club. I’m really happy here. I won’t make any comments on that.”

The likes of Steve Cooper, Thomas Frank, Oliver Glasner and Ange Postecoglu have also reportedly been noted by Tottenham chiefs as they prepare to source an eventual replacement for Conte, who has seemingly managed his final game for the club after riling Levy with his post-match comments following the recent draw at Southampton.

“I see selfish players,” fumed Conte. “I see players that don’t want to help each other and don’t put their heart. Why? Because they are used to it here, they are used to it. They don’t play for something important, they don’t want to play under pressure, they don’t want to play under stress.

“It is easy in this way. Tottenham’s story is this, 20 years there is the owner and they never won something but why? The fault is only for the club, or for every manager that stays here. I have seen the managers that Tottenham had on the bench.”
