Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly has concerns over bringing Mauricio Pochettino back to the club despite it being a popular choice with players. The Spurs supremo is reportedly set to sack Antonio Conte this week after relations between the Italian and the club turned sour.
Pochettino was a fans’ favourite during his initial stint with the club, regularly helping the team to compete at the top of the Premier League table. He led the Lilywhites to their first ever Champions League final in 2019 and the side have scarcely improved since he left just a few months later.
The Argentine went on to manage PSG but he has been out of work since being sacked by the Ligue 1 champions last summer. He is believed to be keen on a return to north London and is currently one of the bookies’ favourites to take over from Conte if the 53-year-old is relieved of his duties as expected later this week.
Spurs players are believed to be keen on a return for their former boss with some current stars still in touch with him. However, The Mirror reports that Levy is not as keen as he holds reservations about rehiring someone he sacked just over three years ago.

Should Conte receive his P45 this week it is likely that Ryan Mason will takeover on an interim basis while Levy considers his options. Pochettino is not the only name in the frame with Thomas Tuchel, Luis Enrique, Roberto De Zerbi and Ruben Amorim also believed to be under consideration.
Vacancies across Europe could end up affecting who Spurs are able to appoint with jobs at PSG and Real Madrid likely to be available while there is also speculation regarding the future of Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann. Any of the roles becoming free would leave Tottenham with strong competition for potential candidates.

Tensions have been growing between Conte and the Tottenham faithful this season with fans increasingly unhappy with the Italian’s style of play as results started to dry up. The club once again have zero chance of winning any silverware and his rant following the 3-3 draw with Southampton this weekend appears to have been the final straw.
It remains to be seen what action Levy will choose to take in the coming days but it looks increasingly clear that Conte’s long-term future will be away from north London. Pochettino would be a popular replacement but Levy may well decide that it is better not to go back.
