Dani Ceballos has told Arsenal supporters that the club will start winning trophies again soon in a touching farewell message. The Spaniard will return to Real Madrid having spent the last two seasons at the Emirates Stadium.

Ceballos made 77 appearances for Arsenal but only scored two goals from midfield across his two temporary spells.

Both of those strikes came during his maiden year with the north Londoners and neither was in the Premier League.

A disappointing campaign for Arsenal ended with them finishing eighth in the top-flight after a 2-0 win over Brighton ensured they stayed two points above Leeds United.

They were knocked out in the semi-final of the Europa League by Villarreal thanks to a 2-1 aggregate defeat. All the goals came in the first leg, a game in which Ceballos was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Ceballos has not featured since a 3-1 win over West Brom at the start of the month and will head back to Real this summer.

It is likely that the 24-year-old will be moved on by the La Liga giants to raise funds for an expensive summer.

Zinedine Zidane’s side finished second in the Spanish top-flight, two points behind champions and rivals Atletico Madrid.

Ceballos addressed Arsenal supporters on social media on Monday, promising that the club would soon be launched back among the Premier League’s elite.

“Thanks Arsenal and to all the Gunners,” he wrote on Instagram.

“For welcoming me with so much love from the very first day I wore this jersey.

“For letting me experience the feeling of being a Gunner and allowing me to be part of your family all this time.

“A complicated year – for many reasons – has come to its end.

“Especially for having missed the chance of living home matches in the Emirates with our supporters. Still, I assure you that I will never forget your warmth and support in every moment.

“I am sure that Arsenal, being a historic and great team, will soon be back on top, winning championships and being a reference as it is and always has been.

This club, and especially its supporters, deserve it, and I am confident that they will achieve it.

“Thanks to all those people who are part of the team: coaches, kit men, medical staff, communications and marketing team, employees, managers and especially the supporters.

“All those persons who so often work quietly giving all they have for this great club. I want you to know that I have always worked very hard and tried my very best for this crest and this jersey.

“I wish you all the best and the success that I’m sure will come.”
