Dan out to prove he’s the man for the Wanderers

Daniel Margush has never doubted his ability to play in the A-League. All he wanted was an opportunity to prove his worth.

And now, much to his delight, the 23-year-old goalkeeper is getting the chance he has craved for at Western Sydney Wanderers.

Brought to the club in the off-season from Perth Glory seemingly as the back-up for Daniel Lopar, Margush is now the club’s first-choice gloveman following the Swiss veteran’s sudden departure last month.

And while Wanderers coach Carl Robinson has indicated he will sign another keeper to boost the club’s custodian ranks, Margush isn’t about to let the chance to become Western Sydney’s long-time No.1 slip through his fingers.

Despite the Wanderers’ first-up 1-0 loss to Macarthur FC last Wednesday, Margush was impressive in just his eighth game of an A-League career that started five years ago with Adelaide United.

“I’ve always had confidence in my game. I know what I’m capable of doing,” Margush said.

“It’s great now that I’ve got the opportunity and the stage to actually go and show people that I can do it. Now it’s up to me to be able to do that and perform.

“It’s one of the problems in Australian football, that lack of opportunity to play, especially for young goalkeepers, but now that I’ve got the opportunity I’m hoping I can take it with both hands and run.”

The Wanderers are back in action on Friday night when they visit McDonald Jones Stadium to meet the Newcastle Jets, who Robinson coached last season before defecting to Western Sydney.

“It’s going to be a big game for a variety of reasons. We've got a lot of good characters in the changing room who will actually relish that and take it as stage to stand up and say `this is what we are as a team’.”
